Kat's Top 25 [27 Jul 2006|10:54pm]

[ mood | awake ]

Time for an update, is it not? So here you go, my top twenty-five favorite songs.

Or... at least the songs that show up on my top twenty-five most played list on my iTunes...

25. Move Along - All American Rejects. Great, all-purpose "get-over-it" song. Applicable to many situations, and therefore great for singing at the top of your lungs when the mood moves you.
24. Come Thou Font - David Crowder. You knew this was coming. You can't have a Kat's Top 25 without some sort of worship music. This is probably one of my favorite hymns redone, EVER.
23. Citadel - Anna Nalick. You'll be seeing a lot of Anna Nalick on this list...
22. The One I'm Waiting For - Relient K. This song is rather catchy. Upbeat and fun, but with a serious message.
21. Consider This - Anna Nalick. I like the sudden stops and starts of the music in this song, it makes the music dramatic. And fun to dance too... (even if you can't dance)
20. Paper Bag - Anna Nalick. Listen to the lyrics. We've all felt that way once in our lives.
19. Getting Into You - Relient K. I LOOOVE this song. Especially considering Relient K is a very high-energy band with a lot of high-energy music. This song is a great deviation from their normal music.
18. Silent Night - Sixpence None The Richer. Favorite Christmas carol. I'm sentimental, what can I say...
17. In The Rough - Anna Nalick. This is a good song to listen to right after you're coming out of a relationship and your partner was decidedly... lacking. Or just when you're lonely.
16. Unwritten - Natasha Bedingfield. For all of those who have ever had writer's block... (and still do)
15. A Lifetime - Better Than Ezra. I really like the story that this song tells. The chorus kind of gets a little old, but everything else I like.
14. Angels We Have Heard On High - Relient K. For those of you who like their Christmas music hard-rocked.
13. The Time Of Your Life - Green Day. Before Green Day began to fail at music.
12. High Of 75 - Relient K. Yes, more of Relient K. It's a good worship song you can wave your hands to. You can feel the sunshine on your face, even if it's snowing.
11. Art In Me - Jars of Clay. Again, lyrics. Listen to the lyrics.
10. Someone to Watch Over Me - Kat Parsons. A woman after my own heart... and name... Yes, it's an oldie redone, but I really like the way she sings it. And I love this song.
9. Like a Child - Jars of Clay. Jars of Clay ALWAYS = great lyrics
8. Wunderkind - Alanis Morissette. This song is driving and wonderfully empowering. It makes me want to stand on a cliff next to the ocean and sing at the top of my lungs.
7. Secrets (That Aren't My Own) - Allison Crowe. Allisone Crowe is a fairly unknown artist, and some of her singing is a little overwhelming, but the way she sings this song is so emotional you easily are swept away by it.
6. Out of My League - Stephen Speaks. I want a man to sing this to me. The piano score is great, and the lyrics are beautiful
5. In My Head - Anna Nalick. If I write a book that turns into a movie, I want this to be the opening song.
4. Breathe (2AM) - Anna Nalick. Just in case you ever forget to use your lungs...
3. I Know It's Time - Kat Parsons. This was a break-up song for me. Sappy and sad... And now I wonder why I ever felt that way... But it's a good song for those of you who have problems letting go.
2. Dirty Little Secret - All American Rejects. I'm not sure I can explain how much I love this song...
1. Bleed - Anna Nalick. Can't explain the love for this one either. I love singing it, dancing to it, and how true the lyrics are for several situations in life. That always helps.

So... if you couldn't tell, almost all of Anna Nalick's "Wreck of the Day" CD was on this list. Go buy it. But buy the new version because it has three extra songs on it and they're AMAZING. *fan plug* Actually, all of these artists rock. Buy their CDs. Support the music industry. "Floor?" [10 Dec 2005|01:31am]

[ mood | creative ]

So, I think I'm starting a story that may evolve into a book-sized project eventually, but for now it's just something I'm doing for fun.

I realize that the character is totally, blatantly, cliche-ly (if that word exists) me, but I really don't care. It's artistic liscence or whatever =P There aren't any other real-life people or situations represented and I'm not entirely sure if there will be. I'm just using myself as one of the characters because it's easiest for me to relate that way. And keep in mind, it's an exaggerated version of myself. Massively exaggerated.

It's kind of weird that Gwen posted tonight, because I was thinking it was high time for an update too LOL. So here it goes.

So a couple of summers ago, my parents dragged me out to Vail, Colorado to stay in my Uncle's condominium for a week. On the refrigerator in the kitchen, there was a set of magnetic poetry. I was extremley bored one very rainy and crappy day, so I arranged the words like so:

You must
for the
            sing with the sea
                                 see through the shadows
         whisper to the
         sleep like death
flood me with

And the only reason I kept it is because my brother, of all people, told me it was really good and I needed to keep a copy of it in that arrangement. My brother's not the really likes-poetry-and-understands-it-on-a-higher-level-type-person. So I kept it.

PS - you might recognize it from my icon XD

I started a new lj collective for all my art and stuff. I'll still post here and first, of course =)

We definately tend to ignore this community. We should stop that. Hopefully, since I am on this major quest for artistic fulfillment I can start posting that shit...who knows.

How about this? A five-minute piece of crap I put together for my new wallpaper...

[ mood | creative ]

So I definitely have been putting off posting a story for far too long. I was planning on posting something else, but I changed my mind. Maybe this story isn't any good, but it means something to me so here it is.

The Drowning of the Prison

She looked at the bottle of pills with a blank expression on her face. She hated those pills, more than she could say. They kept her prison in her own brain, slowly draining her of all of the happiness and creativity she used to have. She used to paint and draw and write and sing and pour her soul into all of it, but since she started taking those pills, her soul had slowly dissappeared with each dosage she ingested.

They made her sick. She'd spend so much time over a toilet nearly throwing up five or six times before the dry heaves would stop. She slept for hours a day. She never felt like doing anything anymore. She couldn't eat because she'd get sick, and she no longer felt like sharing her talents because it no longer brought her joy. The pills were supposed to help with the depression, but instead of happiness, she felt nothing.

Her mother told her that she needed to take them. She never held it against her mother for making her, her mother could never fully understand the hell that her life was because she could never articulate it correctly. Her mom kept sending the little orange prescription bottle every month, and she'd keep taking them. But when she had recieved the bottle in the mail that day, something was different.

She was tired of the prison in which she lived. She was exhausted from the dry heaving and the constant napping. She was tired of feeling dead inside.

So there she stood in the dorm bathroom stall over a toilet holding the little orange prescription bottle, staring at it with the eyes that had long since lost their vibrant glow. Without much though, she twisted the cap open and held the bottle over the toilet seat. She looked down into the water and then turned the pill bottle over, and the little blue pills dropped with little splish-sploshy noises. Once the bottle was empty, she stared into the toilet bowl, watching as the wrapping dissolved and blue powder began to expand over the surface of the water.

"Hey, you okay in there?" a friend's voice called from outside the bathroom.

"Fine." She called back.

Glancing one last time at the blue water, she reached forward and pushed down on the flusher and watched as her soul-stealer swirled down the toilet, taking with it all of it it's wretchedness and sickness.

On her way out, she casually tossed the pill bottle into the garbage and walked out to join her friends to go to dinner. No one asked what she had done, and she told no one. Somehow, it seemed to her, with the simple act of throwing out her slave driver, she had already regained part of her soul back. And for the first time, she smiled. And she meant it.

Feeling creative and adventurous... [10 Aug 2005|02:35am]

[ mood | artistic ]

So...this is the first music video I've ever made. I hope people like it. It's Veronica Mars, more specifically LoVe. I had the scenes on my computer so I just decided I'd give it a try.

I set it to "Out of My League" by Stephen Speaks. It's basically their first kiss with flashbacks running through their heads while it's going on....

Hope you enjoy....

So, we're currently planning our future because we're stuck in Sioux City, it's 100 freaking degrees outside, and there's NOTHING to do. Except go to the movies. And nothing's playing anyway. =P

Gwen is planning on finding a rich Grinell guy to support her for the rest of her life.
Kat currently has a boyfriend and doesn't wish to speak on the matter right now XD "Silver or Gold?" I don't know yet! XD

Live in:
- New Zealand
- London
- Rural England
- Australia
- Africa
- Ireland/Scotland
- Denmark
- Hawaii

- Every other place we don't live in. See the world. All seven continents (well, unless we decide that Antarctica is too cold...then it won't be graced by our presence. Stupid penguins.)
- Alaska (because it's not as cold as Antarctica .... is it? XD)
- Egypt
- Peru

We'll be living together, by the way =P

Whichever works for you.

We love friends. Add us. We might add you back if you rock our socks and pass our tests ;)
